The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed that the enforcement of laws on election violation cases, both at the national and regional levels, is not yet running optimally.

“Enforcement of election violations is also considered not yet running optimally,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters, as reported by ANTARA on Saturday, 25 April 2026.

Budi disclosed this following the KPK’s study which found indications of bribery towards election organisers. The bribery was intended to manipulate electoral results.

“In addition, there are still gaps in the recruitment and selection process of election organisers, which could potentially produce organisers who lack integrity,” he stated.

Previously, the KPK’s Monitoring Directorate in 2025 conducted a study to identify corruption potentials among election organisers.

After the study, the KPK proposed five points for improvement in election organisation, hoped to minimise corruption potentials.

First, the KPK encourages strengthening the integrity of election organisers through improvements in selection mechanisms, process transparency, and public involvement in tracking backgrounds. This effort can also be supported by optimising the Political Party Information System (SIPOL).

Second, restructuring the party political candidate process, including minimum membership requirements and the elimination of provisions that open room for elite intervention in candidates.

Third, reform of campaign financing, including regulations on campaign methods and types, as well as restrictions on cash usage.

Fourth, gradual implementation of electronic voting and vote recapitulation at national and regional elections.

Fifth, strengthening election law enforcement by clarifying norms, expanding legal subjects to include everyone as givers and receivers, and aligning regulations for legislative and regional head elections.
