The Indonesian Climbing Federation (FPTI) officially dismissed former head coach of the national training camp, Hendra Basir, in an unceremonious manner. The decision was announced by FPTI’s Chairman, Yenny Wahid, during a press conference held at Santika Premiere Hotel, Harapan Indah, Bekasi, on Wednesday 4 March 2026. ‘FPTI has dismissed the former head coach unceremoniously,’ Wahid said. The decision followed allegations of sexual harassment and physical violence by Hendra Basir. In the press conference, Wahid also detailed the chronology of the sexual abuse allegations involving the former head coach of the national training camp. ‘So everyone understands that there has been a very serious incident for us and for the entire sporting community. Sexual violence has been experienced by the athletes,’ she added. Wahid continued by describing how she gathered players at a hotel, with a psychologist and coaches, and decided to place the head coach of the national training camp, Hendra Basir, on non-active status. ‘So on 28 January, eight athletes approached me to report the alleged sexual and physical violence they had experienced,’ Wahid said. ‘There was also a psychologist who gathered at the hotel to examine what happened to the athletes. A few days later I issued the non-active order for the head coach (Hendra Basir),’ she explained. Wahid noted that the meetings always involved a psychologist to study and provide psychological support for the athletes. The daughter of Indonesia’s fourth President, Abdurrahman Wahid, also confirmed that FPTI is fully committed to supporting the athletes and, going forward, to forming a healthier sporting environment. As a next step, FPTI is forming a Fact-Finding Team to investigate the case. ‘We are serious about addressing these allegations,’ Wahid said. ‘We have zero tolerance for various behavioural deviations, especially related to sexual and physical violence,’ she added. Wahid also said that the incident had been reported to the IFSC, the international federation for sport climbing. ‘In accordance with international safeguards and the rights and obligations of athletes, we must comply with all of it,’ she stated.
