Jakarta, VIVA – The Coordinator of the Front Pemuda Indonesia Raya (FPIR), Fauzan Ohorella, has affirmed that the National Police Cultural Reform agenda must not be hijacked by particular political interests that could potentially erode public trust in the police institution.

According to Fauzan, police reform must be directed towards fundamental improvements that directly address the needs of the public.

“Police Cultural Reform must focus on improving the service system, enhancing the quality of human resources, and the welfare of police personnel, particularly Bhabinkamtibmas officers in remote areas. They are the front line of the nation’s security services,” Fauzan explained at a SpeakUp Kamtibmas event, as quoted on Monday, 16 February 2026.

He assessed that strengthening the capacity and welfare of officers in the field is far more important than political narratives attacking the personal leadership of the institution.

Fauzan also directed criticism at a number of retired TNI (Indonesian Armed Forces) officers whom he considered to be frequently constructing tendentious narratives against the National Police.

“Retired officers such as Gatot Nurmantyo and Soenarko, among others, are very naive. Just imagine, if they lost their vehicle or something, they would certainly report it to the local police station, not to Said Didu or Abraham Samad,” Fauzan said.

In his view, all statements attacking the National Police in general are counterproductive and have the potential to undermine national security stability.

FPIR affirmed that criticism of state institutions remains part of democracy. However, criticism must be delivered objectively and constructively, not through narratives aimed at delegitimising institutions.

Fauzan called on all elements of the nation to maintain national stability and support Police Cultural Reform oriented towards public service, professionalism, and the strengthening of internal integrity.

“We believe that if the public is no longer easily provoked, then narratives such as verbally attacking individuals like Gatot Nurmantyo and Soenarko could be described as a moral and ethical crisis,” Fauzan concluded.

Meanwhile, another speaker, Habib Syakur Ali Mahdi, assessed that there is a structured pattern of attacks against National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo. He noted that the pattern bears similarities to attacks previously directed at the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.

Habib Syakur suspected that the police reform issue has been co-opted by groups of former sympathisers of Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI), who he believes still harbour disappointment and political resentment towards the government and the National Police institution.
