The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Luwu Regency in South Sulawesi has recorded that 95 housing units and 10 hectares of paddy fields ready for harvest in four villages have been inundated by floods. In addition, access to the Trans-Sulawesi road has also been submerged due to heavy downpours. “Based on monitoring up to Saturday, the floods have not yet subsided and rain is still lashing the affected areas,” stated Abdul Muhari, Head of the Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Centre of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), in his remarks on Sunday (10/5). Muhari explained that the flooding was triggered by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in Luwu Regency since Friday (8/5). As a result, four villages have been flooded. “Four villages in two sub-districts are flooded, namely Rante Belu Village and Riwang Village in Larompong Sub-district, as well as Temboe Village and Sampano Village in South Larompong Sub-district,” he revealed. Due to the flood disaster, 95 residents’ homes and 10 hectares of land ready for harvest have been inundated. “There are 10 hectares of paddy fields ready for harvest submerged along with 95 residents’ homes. BPBD, together with local government, is still conducting data collection and coordinating with relevant agencies,” he concluded.
