Four TNI Soldiers Who Threw Acid on Andrie Yunus Charged with Assault
The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has announced that four of its soldiers have been named as suspects in the case of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. The four suspects are being charged with assault provisions. “The article applied to the suspects is the assault provision,” said TNI’s Head of Information, Major General TNI Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, in a statement to reporters on Tuesday (31/3/2026). In the initial handling of this case, TNI announced that it had secured four of its soldiers suspected of involvement in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. The four secured soldiers are members of the TNI Bais Military Police Unit. Aulia stated that the four suspects have been detained in a prison with super-tight security. They have been detained since 18 March 2026. “The four perpetrators have been designated as suspects and are undergoing detention in the military detention facility (maximum security) of the Jakarta Military Regional Command Guntur,” said Aulia. Aulia also mentioned that TNI’s Central Military Police investigators attempted to obtain statements from Andrie Yunus on 19 March 2026. However, the medical team at that time did not permit it due to health reasons. TNI then received a letter from the LPSK Chairman on 25 March 2026 stating that Andrie Yunus is under LPSK protection. TNI claims to have written to LPSK for the purpose of examining Andrie Yunus. “The Commander of TNI’s Central Military Police has sent a letter to the LPSK Chairman regarding the request to obtain statements from the victim witness Mr. AY. TNI is committed to carrying out law enforcement processes in an open, professional, and accountable manner,” said Aulia. As is known, TNI’s Central Military Police revealed that there are four TNI Bais soldiers who are suspected perpetrators. The four perpetrators are initialled NDP, SL, BHW, and ES. TNI’s Central Military Police Chief, Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto, stated that the four perpetrators are members of the TNI Bais Military Police Unit from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches.
