The success serves as evidence that students in East OKU are capable of competing at the national level. Martapura (ANTARA) - Four student research works from SMP Negeri 2 Semendawai Timur, Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Timur Regency, South Sumatra, have passed the research review stage in the Indonesian Student Research Olympiad (OPSI) for 2026. The Secretary of the East OKU Education and Culture Office, Dodi Purnama, in Martapura, South Sumatra, on Thursday, expressed appreciation for this achievement. He views this success as an indicator of the growing research culture among students and opens opportunities for national-level competition in the same event in August 2026. He explained that the four researches that passed the OPSI 2026 review stage include those in the Natural Sciences (IPA) field. In this field, he said, students named Komang Sri Anggun and Wayan Bianca Angelina presented an environmentally friendly innovation titled JERKONG-FOAM. This product is plantable packaging for fruits and vegetables utilising rice straw waste and cassava peels. Then, another research in the same field was conducted by Lexytha Praja Meura and Wayan Citra. From the Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts (IPS) field, Made Lestari and M Fais Nuzula Dewangga addressed the issue of teenage social ethics through research titled “Canda or Cela?”. They designed an educational game “Batas Candaan Nusantara” to prevent verbal bullying and increase language awareness among students. Next, in the Engineering Sciences (IPT) field, Quinsha Cinta Yudika and Putu Varen Nitia developed the NUTRI-DESK innovation, a study desk equipped with interactive nutrition literacy features. This innovation is designed to help students understand the nutritional content of school lunch menus in a practical way. The supervising teacher, Gede Muditha, expressed that this achievement is the fruit of the children’s perseverance in researching at school. According to him, the review stage in OPSI determines progression to the next stage. “If all the research is deemed to meet scientific methodology standards, these four teams will advance to the national level and bring the name of East OKU to this prestigious event,” he said.
