Four Specialised Window-Jemmying Burglars Arrested in Serang and South Tangerang
A patrol by the Serang Police has led to the arrest of four suspected thieves specialising in prying open windows to burgle homes in Serang and South Tangerang. Officers became suspicious of the four men who were riding pillion on two motorcycles. “When they were about to be stopped, the perpetrators tried to flee by abandoning the motorcycles they were using. However, thanks to the officers’ alertness, all four were apprehended,” said Serang Police Chief AKBP Andri Kurniawan on Wednesday (24/6/2026). The arrested suspects have the initials AN (25), WA (26), YI (45), and MA (30). They were detained in the Kibin area, Serang Regency, in the early hours of Tuesday (23/6). At the time, the Criminal Investigation Unit’s Resmob team, led by Aipda Sutrisno, was conducting a routine patrol. After making the arrests, officers searched the suspects and found a screwdriver used as a tool for their crimes, along with two mobile phones belonging to a recent victim. “From the suspects, we seized a screwdriver used to commit the crimes and two stolen mobile phones,” Andri stated. The suspects admitted to stealing from a house belonging to Sukmanah in Kibin. They entered the house by prying open a window with a screwdriver before taking the victim’s valuables. “The perpetrators broke into the victim’s rented house by forcing the window open with a screwdriver. Once inside, they took two mobile phones that were in the house,” Andri explained. Further interrogation revealed that this was not the group’s first theft. They have carried out several similar operations within the jurisdiction of the Serang Police and in several locations in the South Tangerang area. “Based on the suspects’ confessions, they have committed theft three times within the Serang Police jurisdiction and have also carried out similar crimes in several places in the South Tangerang area,” he disclosed. Meanwhile, Serang Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Andi Kurniady added that two of the four suspects, AN and WA, are recidivists in cases involving the same modus operandi. The four suspects and the evidence are currently being held at the Serang Police headquarters for further investigation. “The Resmob team is continuing to develop the case to uncover the possibility of other perpetrators or other locations that have been targeted by the suspects,” Andi said.
