Jakarta’s Transportation Office (Dishub) estimates that approximately 4,024,251 residents will not travel outside Jakarta for the 2026 Eid holiday, whilst around 6.6 million residents are expected to travel.

“We estimate that approximately 6,653,749 people will travel out of Jakarta, whilst 4,024,251 people will remain in the city,” said Yayat Sudrajat, Head of Traffic and Road Transport Operations Control at Jakarta’s Transportation Office, in comments reported by Antara on Friday, 13 March 2026.

Sudrajat stated that the 4 million residents remaining in Jakarta are expected to crowd tourist attractions and shopping centres such as Jaya Ancol Dream Park and Ragunan Zoo. Other popular destinations include Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), the Old Jakarta tourism area, the Thousand Islands, the National Monument (Monas) area, and the PIK area.

“Besides preparing for those travelling, there are approximately 4 million who will not travel, so we predict these residents will crowd tourist attractions and shopping centres,” said Sudrajat.

Three shopping districts are expected to be particularly busy: the Tanah Abang area, Kebon Kacang area, and Glodok area.

To manage traffic congestion at these locations, the Jakarta Provincial Government is considering implementing traffic management engineering, including contra flow systems, odd-even vehicle restrictions, and mobility limitations in tourist areas.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has deployed 2,082 personnel, including from the Transportation Office, along with support facilities such as 90 patrol vehicles, 90 towing vehicles, 240 portable signs, and 1,350 traffic cones or water barriers during the 2026 Eid transportation period.

PT Jasa Marga predicts that the peak departure traffic will occur on 18 March 2026 (three days before Eid) and the return traffic peak will occur on 23 March 2026 (three days after Eid).

“Traffic volume projections for vehicles leaving Jakarta between 10 and 11 days before Eid are approximately 3,671,078 vehicles, whilst projections for vehicles entering Jakarta between 10 days before and 10 days after Eid are approximately 3,540,379 vehicles,” said Sudrajat.
