Jakarta — The Operational Control Division for Road Traffic and Transport (Dalops LLAJ) of Jakarta’s Transport Agency estimates that approximately 4.024 million residents will not travel outside Jakarta or undertake the Eid exodus in 2026.

“We estimate that members of the public who will travel outside Jakarta are predicted to be around 6.654 million people, whilst those who will not travel or remain in the city are 4.024 million people,” said Yayat Sudrajat, Head of the Dalops LLAJ Division of Jakarta’s Transport Agency, during a broadcast in Jakarta on Thursday.

Yayat indicated that approximately four million people remaining in the city are likely to crowd tourist attractions and shopping centres in Jakarta, such as Taman Impian Jaya Ancol and Taman Margasatwa Ragunan.

These also include Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), the Old Jakarta Tourism Area, the Thousand Islands, the National Monument Area (Monas), and the PIK Area.

“Whilst we prepare for those travelling for Eid, approximately four million will not travel, so we predict that tourist attractions and shopping centres will be crowded,” Yayat said.

Three shopping areas expected to be heavily visited include the Tanah Abang Area, the Kebon Kacang Area, and the Glodok Area.

To anticipate traffic congestion at these locations, the Jakarta Provincial Government is considering implementing traffic engineering with a contra flow system, vehicle restrictions using the odd-even method, and mobility restrictions in tourist areas.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Provincial Government has placed on standby 2,082 personnel including from the Transport Agency and supporting resources such as 90 patrol vehicles, 90 tow trucks, 240 portable signs, and 1,350 traffic cones or water barriers during the implementation of the 2026 Eid Transport Operation.

PT Jasa Marga predicts that the peak exodus will occur on 18 March 2026, three days before Eid, whilst the return traffic will occur on 23 March 2026, three days after Eid.

“The prediction for traffic volume leaving Jakarta from 10 days before to 11 days before Eid is approximately 3.671 million vehicles. Meanwhile, the projection for traffic entering Jakarta from 10 days before to 10 days after Eid is approximately 3.540 million vehicles,” Yayat said.
