Plans to vacate the former Sultan Hotel in Block 15 of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Central Jakarta, have raised significant questions about its future use after clearance. The government, through the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK), has assured that the land will not be left neglected. Instead, Block 15 is being prepared for redevelopment into a more modern, green public area integrated with the needs of urban society. PPKGBK’s Director General, Rakhmadi Afif Kusumo, emphasised that the transition process will be measured and considerate of humanitarian aspects. “We will carry out the vacating execution process while considering all aspects, including the ongoing livelihoods of employees and vendors who have depended on Block 15,” he said. According to Rakhmadi, this takeover is not intended to halt business activities but is part of efforts to reorganise state assets so their benefits can be more widely felt by the public. He stressed that the state is present to ensure the area functions in line with public interests. Additionally, the government has prepared a Service Post to assist all affected parties during the transition. On the legal front, the vacating process is now in its final stage. The legal representative for the State Secretary Minister and PPKGBK, Kharis Sucipto, stated that the execution implementation determination has been issued by the Chief of the Central Jakarta District Court, Dr. Husnul Khotimah, S.H. He explained that the issuance of this determination strengthens the government’s legal basis to promptly execute the takeover of the former Sultan Hotel land and buildings. “The Central Jakarta District Court assesses that the execution vacating request complies with the law and thus issues the Execution Implementation Determination for Vacating. This determination serves as the perfect legal foundation for the State Secretariat Ministry and PPKGBK to vacate the land and buildings (former Sultan Hotel),” said Kharis. He further explained that with this determination, the State Secretariat Ministry now has full legitimacy to implement the Central Jakarta District Court’s Civil Court Decision Number 208/Pdt.G/2025/PN Jkt.Pst in order to save state assets.
