JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Director of Junior High Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) from 2020-2021, who also served as the Budget User Representative (KPA), Mulyatsyah, has admitted to a mistake in receiving money amounting to Rp 500 million from a Chromebook supplier.

Mulyatsyah conveyed this through a duplicate read by his legal team during the continuation of the trial for the alleged corruption case in the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.

“The defendant Mulyatsyah has acknowledged his mistake in receiving money from the directorate treasurer amounting to Rp 500 million,” said one of Mulyatsyah’s lawyers during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court, on Monday (27/4/2026).

Mulyatsyah claimed he was unaware that Mariana Susy, who gave the money to the ministry’s parties, was a representative of PT Bhinneka Mentari Dimensi, the Chromebook vendor.

“However, witness Mariana Susy only stated that she was one of the vendors of PT Bhinneka Mentari Dimensi and intended to entrust the money for the leadership at Kemendikbud,” said the legal representative.

On this basis, Mulyatsyah’s legal team requested that the panel of judges acquit their client from the six-year prison demand.

In the indictment, Mulyatsyah is said to have received 120,000 Singapore dollars and 150,000 US dollars around 2021-2022 or after the procurement was completed.

In today’s hearing, another defendant, the Director of Primary Schools at Kemendikbudristek from 2020-2021, Sri Wahyuningsih, also requested that the panel of judges acquit her from the six-year prison demand.

“It is evident and clear that the elements charged in the primary indictment are not fulfilled in the defendant Sri Wahyuningsih. Therefore, for the sake of justice, the defendant Sri Wahyuningsih must be declared not proven legally and convincingly of committing the criminal act as per the primary and subsidiary indictments,” said Sri’s lawyer while reading the duplicate appeal.

The public prosecutor (JPU) has read out the demands for the three defendants in the Chromebook corruption case, namely the former technology consultant Ibrahim Arief, Mulyatsyah, and Sri Wahyuningsih.

Ibrahim Arief is demanded to be sentenced to 15 years in prison with a fine of Rp 1 billion subsidiary 190 days and to pay restitution of Rp 16.9 billion subsidiary 7.5 years in prison.

In the indictment, Ibrahim is not said to have enriched himself, but jointly committed unlawful acts.

Ibrahim is believed to have prepared a technical study that referred to a specific product, namely Chromebook.
