Members of Commission III of the DPR, including Rudianto Lallo, have expressed full support for the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) decision to detain former Religious Affairs Minister (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in connection with alleged corruption in hajj quota distribution.

Rudianto emphasised that Commission III, as a working partner of the KPK, respects the ongoing legal process against the former top official at the Religious Affairs Ministry. He called on investigators to thoroughly examine the involvement of other parties in the case.

“We respect the KPK’s efforts to investigate this case involving the former number one official at the Religious Affairs Ministry. We support the KPK’s continued efforts to investigate this matter properly. We request that all those involved be processed through the legal system,” said Rudianto when reached on Thursday (12 March 2026).

The NasDem politician assessed that the hajj quota corruption case has drawn sharp scrutiny because it concerns the public’s right to perform pilgrimage. For this reason, he urged the KPK to expose the case transparently to maintain public confidence in law enforcement.

Furthermore, Rudianto stressed that law enforcement in corruption cases must not stop merely at punishment through imprisonment, but must also focus on recovering the embezzled state funds.

“We believe this case has attracted public attention and must be revealed transparently. There must be accountability, and equally important is the recovery of state losses in this case,” he asserted.

The KPK has revealed the technical reasons behind its decision to detain the former Religious Affairs Minister. The commission disclosed the origins of the alleged bribery case in the administration and distribution of hajj quotas at the Religious Affairs Ministry.

In KPK’s practice of handling cases, designation as a suspect followed by detention is frequently carried out when the case is deemed ready. The KPK has revealed that corruption funds from the hajj quota case flowed to the personal interests of former Minister Yaqut and allegedly to influence a special parliamentary committee. The KPK uncovered the modus operandi of hajj quota corruption at the Religious Affairs Ministry, involving tariffs ranging from 65-84 million rupiah to skip queues.
