Former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag), Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, has been detained again by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in the alleged corruption case concerning Hajj quotas. The detention is taking place at the KPK’s State Detention Centre (Rutan), though Yaqut still needs to undergo a health check.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the change in the type of detention was carried out on Monday (23/3/2026). This process is part of the ongoing investigation requirements.

“Today, the KPK carried out the process of changing the type of detention for suspect YCQ from house arrest back to KPK Rutan detention,” Budi said in his statement on Monday (23/3/2026), as reported by detikNews.

Prior to the detention transfer, Yaqut underwent a health examination. The check-up was conducted by a medical team at Bhayangkara Hospital Tk I R Said Sukanto in East Jakarta.

“For now, the health examination by the doctor is still ongoing. We will all wait for the results of this health test,” Budi remarked.

The KPK has assured that the investigation into the alleged Hajj quota corruption case will continue in accordance with applicable legal mechanisms. The anti-corruption agency also aims to promptly complete the case file for submission to the prosecution stage.

“We assure that the investigation of the case will continue to progress to complete the investigator’s file and be immediately handed over to the prosecution stage,” Budi stated.

The KPK also expressed appreciation for public support in overseeing the handling of this case. The latest developments regarding Yaqut’s condition and the legal process will continue to be communicated to the public.

It was previously reported that the KPK’s decision to change the detention of former Menag Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to house arrest was deemed unusual. Former KPK investigator Yudi Purnomo Harahap expressed surprise at the KPK’s decision.

“This raises questions—could it be that the KPK lacks confidence in the evidence they have gathered so far, both domestically and internationally, to the point of changing the detention status,” Yudi told reporters on Sunday (22/3/2026), as reported by detikNews.
