Jakarta — A panel of judges has sentenced Yoki Firnandi, former Director General of Pertamina International Shipping, to nine years’ imprisonment. An additional fine of Rp 1 billion has been imposed.

The conviction relates to corruption charges involving the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina (Persero), its subholding, and joint operating contracts for the period 2018-2023. Chief Judge Fajar Kusuma Aji delivered the sentence to three of nine defendants tried in the case.

The verdict was delivered at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) of the Central Jakarta District Court on Friday, 27 February 2026. Judge Fajar determined that Firnandi had been proven beyond reasonable doubt guilty of committing corruption in concert with others, as per the primary charges.

“I hereby impose upon the defendant Yoki Firnandi a sentence of imprisonment for nine years and a fine of Rp 1 billion payable within one month, which may be extended for a further month at most from the date the judgment becomes final,” the judge declared at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court.

Following his conviction, Firnandi responded to the verdict. He characterised the proceedings as a “charade”, asserting that he had worked professionally for Pertamina and generated profits for the company, only to be imprisoned in return.

“This is, in my view, an extraordinary charade. We are professionals working at a state-owned enterprise who have contributed significantly to the company and generated profits. Yet we can be so easily convicted simply for carrying out our duties, with phantom losses materialising. And none of the trial facts that surprised us were considered. What kind of justice system is this?” he stated following the hearing on Friday, 27 February 2026.

He expressed deep disappointment with the court’s decision whilst refusing to accept defeat. “We will think about it, but to be frank, we are very disappointed,” he said.

“We will continue to fight this, we will continue to fight,” he added.
