Jakarta — A public discussion on the revision of the Electoral Law was held by the Extended Family of Former General Elections Commission Members (KBM-KPU) on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

Ahmad Riza Patria, Deputy Chair of KBM-KPU, stated that the public discussion was organised to gather input regarding the conduct of elections. The former Jakarta KPU member said that former election administrators felt they had a responsibility regarding input on the Electoral Law revision.

“Our former KPU colleagues feel they have a responsibility to be involved in discussions and will provide input to the government and members of the House of Representatives,” Riza Patria said when met at the venue, Mega Proklamasi, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

He also addressed the parliamentary threshold issue, which the Constitutional Court had requested be explained rigidly regarding the reasons for implementing an appropriate threshold. “We want to hold a discussion and later present the results showing the advantages and disadvantages, but the responsibility to decide will rest with the government together with the House of Representatives,” he said.

In his remarks, the Deputy Minister of Villages noted that former KPU members were practitioners who had directly experienced electoral processes. For this reason, he hoped that former KPU members could identify shortcomings they experienced during their tenure as active election administrators.

In his presentation, Secretary General of KBM-KPU Andi Nurpati explained that an evaluation of the electoral system was needed, including systems decided by the Constitutional Court such as the separation of national and local elections.

This former KPU Commissioner for 2007-2012 believed the Constitutional Court’s decision to separate elections would increase the financial burden for electoral participants. He also raised concerns about direct and indirect direct regional head elections through the Regional Representative Council.
