Former consultant for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) during the Nadiem Makarim era, Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam, has been sentenced to four years in prison. The judge declared Ibam guilty in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebooks and Chrome Device Management (CDM).

“The Defendant Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam is proven legally and convincingly guilty of committing the criminal act of corruption jointly as charged in the subsidiary indictment,” said the chief judge Purwanto S Abdullah while reading the verdict at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

“Therefore, the Defendant Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam is sentenced to imprisonment for 4 years,” the judge added.

Ibam was also fined Rp 500 million. If the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for 120 days.

The judge stated that Ibam was guilty of violating Article 603/Article 604 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Offences Law in conjunction with Article 20 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.

In the trial held on Thursday (16/4), Ibam was demanded 15 years in prison and a fine of Rp 1 billion subsidiary to 190 days of imprisonment. The prosecutor also demanded that Ibam pay restitution of Rp 16.92 billion subsidiary to 7 years and 6 months in prison.

In addition to Ibam, the judge issued guilty verdicts against two other defendants, namely Sri Wahyuningsih as the former Director of Primary Schools of the Directorate General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education, and Secondary Education from 2020-2021, and Mulyatsyah as the former Director of Junior High Schools at Kemendikbudristek in 2020. Sri was sentenced to 4 years in prison, and Mulyatsyah to 4.5 years in prison.

Nadiem is set to face the prosecution’s demands in court tomorrow, while another suspect, Jurist Tan, remains at large.
