Former Head of Environmental Agency Named Suspect, DKI Complies with Ongoing Legal Process
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government states that it will comply with the legal process regarding the former Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency (LH), initialled AK, who has been designated as a suspect in the case of managing the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). “We comply with the law. If that is indeed a consequence, let it be carried out. We will support what must be done best,” said Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno in Jakarta on Tuesday. He conveyed that legal assistance will be provided because this is a standard mechanism in government. According to Rano, this case serves as a lesson. “This is actually a long journey. Not a one-week or two-week journey, it has even been warned since 2024. It must become a lesson,” said Rano. He stated that the Bantargebang TPST has been accommodating waste for decades, not only from Jakarta. Now, with the technology introduced, it is hoped that the volume of waste entering there can be reduced. Previously, the former Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency, initialled AK, was designated as a suspect by the Ministry of Environment in the case of managing the Bantargebang TPST. This designation is part of the law enforcement process over alleged waste management that does not meet norms, standards, procedures, and criteria, further aggravated by deaths and serious injuries. The landslide incident that occurred on Sunday (8/3) in landfill zone 4 of the Bantargebang TPST resulted in seven people dead and six injured. The ongoing investigation process has now entered the next stage with the designation of suspects responsible for the management.
