Jakarta — Former Foreign Minister Noer Hassan Wirajuda has said President Prabowo Subianto will evaluate Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace (BoP) mission in light of the latest developments in the US-Israel-Iran conflict. After a national discussion at Istana Merdeka in Jakarta on Tuesday evening, 3 March, Wirajuda said the meeting considered how the escalation of hostilities could affect the BoP mission, which has until now focused on ceasefire efforts, humanitarian assistance, and rehabilitation and reconstruction.

He noted that the President stressed the need for evaluation as the situation on the ground continues to evolve. The government will weigh several factors, including funding commitments and Indonesia’s troop deployment, which has been cited as among the largest in the mission.

‘The decision is not yet made. He will evaluate and make the right decision in due course,’ Wirajuda said.

Wirajuda added that the President has, from the outset, emphasised that Indonesia has the right to withdraw if the BoP’s objectives no longer align with the 1945 Constitution. With the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, he argued, this could undermine the mission’s chances of success.

‘The President says we will assess to what extent the BoP will continue its mission. If not, we will withdraw — that is very clear and he will not shy away from it,’ he concluded.
