Former Bima Police Chief Named Drug Suspect, Accused of Betraying the People
Former Bima City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Didik Putra Kuncoro has been named a suspect in a drug trafficking case. Didik also tested positive for methamphetamine following a hair follicle test.
Chairman of the National Police Family Association (Keluarga Besar Putra Putri Polri), AH Bimo Suryono, said Didik had not only broken the law but had also betrayed his oath of office and the trust of the people.
"When an officer mandated to eradicate drugs is himself allegedly involved, it is not merely a legal violation. It is a betrayal of the oath of office and the people's trust," Bimo told reporters on Monday (16 February).
Bimo said the moral impact of such cases was far greater as they undermined public confidence in justice. He argued that if Didik were found guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court, the punishment should be more severe.
"In my view, the sentence for an officer proven to be involved in drugs should be at least twice as heavy as that for a civilian in an equivalent case. This is not about emotion — it is about the responsibility that comes with the position," he said.
Bimo highlighted the importance of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) as an external oversight body for the police. He said Kompolnas must not remain passive.
"Kompolnas must take an active role, oversee this process independently, and ensure there is no conflict of interest in its handling. External oversight is key to maintaining objectivity," Bimo stressed.
Bimo added that the public needed assurances that the legal process would be conducted transparently and would not stall at a certain level.
"Kompolnas must ensure this process is open, professional and accountable. If there are indications of procedural violations, Kompolnas is obliged to submit recommendations openly to the President and the public," he said.
Previously, Director of Narcotics Crime at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri), Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, confirmed that former Bima City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Didik Putra had been named a suspect in drug trafficking.
"Following the case review, the investigation against Senior Commissioner Didik Putra Kuncoro will proceed," he said in a written statement on Sunday evening (15 February).
Head of Sub-Directorate 3 of the Narcotics Crime Directorate at Bareskrim Polri, Senior Commissioner Zulkarnain Harahap, said Didik had also tested positive for drugs based on hair sample results examined in a laboratory through a Hair Follicle Drug Test.
"When we examined him, he tested negative. Both he and his wife, a female police officer, tested negative. However, the Professional and Security Division (Propam) had already conducted a hair test, which came back positive," he said.
