Former Baznas West Java Employee and Corruption Whistleblower, Now Suspect, Calls for Governor's Intervention
TY, a former employee of the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) in West Java who filed a report of suspected corruption at Baznas West Java, has called on Governor Dedi Mulyadi to intervene and investigate the organisation. He notes that the leadership and membership of Baznas West Java are appointed and selected by the governor.
“The leadership of Baznas West Java is selected and appointed by the governor, please Governor Dedi could pay attention to this,” he said after undergoing questioning at the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office recently.
He stated that his complaint to the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office concerns financial report data from Baznas West Java for 2021 to 2023 that has been made public. According to the documents, zakat funds intended for fisabilillah (charitable purposes) were used for institutional operational costs totalling 9.8 billion rupiah.
However, he noted that Baznas West Java had already received administrative rights (hak Amil) amounting to 12.5 per cent of the total zakat funds collected. Additionally, he also reported suspected misappropriation of COVID-19 funds totalling 3.5 billion rupiah.
Meanwhile, TY’s legal representative from the Bandung Legal Aid Foundation (LBH Bandung), Andi Daffa Patiroi, stated that his client was questioned by the prosecutor’s office regarding the alleged corruption case at Baznas West Java. He indicated that the prosecutor’s office was conducting an in-depth investigation into the report.
“So the prosecutor’s office is indeed conducting an in-depth examination of the substance of the report filed by Pak Tri,” he said.
