JAKARTA — Former ambassadors united within the Indonesian Council on World Affairs (ICWA) have called on the Indonesian government to promptly withdraw from the Board of Peace (BoP), an initiative established by US President Donald Trump.

The recommendation was issued by ICWA Chair Al Busyra Basnur following a meeting with Indonesia’s tenth and twelfth Vice President, Jusuf Kalla (JK), at his residence on Jalan Brawijaya, South Jakarta, on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026.

According to Basnur, the BoP has generated considerable controversy both domestically and internationally, including disputes over membership criteria, financial contributions, leadership, and evaluation mechanisms.

“Having observed the developments and contents of the BoP itself, and considering various factors including those raised by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, we note that just ten days after the BoP was launched, what is currently happening in Iran occurred,” Basnur stated.

Kalla highlighted concerns about the US and Israel attacking Iran merely ten days after the BoP’s launch, questioning the initiative’s credibility.

“In principle, the BoP is sound. Its name alone suggests a commitment to peace. However, what matters more is its practice. It was signed at Davos, and ten days later America attacked Iran. How can we claim to lead the BoP under such circumstances?” Kalla remarked.

The delegation included former Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Lutfi Rauf, former Indonesian Ambassador to Spain Wieke Adiyatwidi Adiwoso, former Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia Al Busyra Basnur, former Indonesian Ambassador to Kenya Hery Saripudin, and international relations analyst Dinna Prapto Raharja.
