Jakarta — The government is preparing the establishment of the National Financial Welfare Council, or Financial Health Council, to strengthen the financial inclusion agenda and, at the same time, raise the welfare of the people. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the formation of the National Financial Welfare Council is an instruction from President Prabowo Subianto. This new body is intended to complement or refine the National Inclusive Finance Council (DNKI), which was established earlier on 1 September 2016. ‘The President has ordered the formation of the National Financial Welfare Council. At present, the legal framework in line with the PPSK Act is being prepared,’ he said during the Launch of AKSI KLIK in Jakarta on Friday, 6 March 2026. Last year, before the President issued the directive to form the National Financial Welfare Council, the government had completed drafting Government Regulation (PP) for the establishment of KNLIK, and the process of harmonising the regulation had also been completed last year. ‘With the President’s directive, we immediately moved to transform this into the National Financial Welfare Council,’ Ali said at the same occasion. Ali said the process has now reached cross-ministry discussions and is undergoing public participation. It is hoped the process will be completed soon so that the plan to establish the National Financial Welfare Council can be submitted to the State Secretariat for approval by President Prabowo. ‘Hopefully in the near future we will have refined it and have it submitted back to the State Secretariat,’ he added. Citing the State Secretariat’s website, the formation of the National Financial Welfare Council was proposed by Prabowo in a bilateral meeting with Queen Máxima, who serves as the UN Secretary General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health. Airlangga, at that event, said the directive aims to strengthen cross-sector coordination in the governance of national financial health. ‘Several points were noted in the President’s bilateral meeting, including that the President asked for the establishment of the National Council Related to Financial Welfare, or Financial Health, and this is to complement or refine the DNKI,’ Airlangga said after accompanying the President in receiving Queen Máxima at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, 27 November 2025. The initiative is also reinforced by plans to provide open financial data, strengthen public education, and integrate digital IDs to broaden access to and the benefits of financial services.
