Forensics Lab Recovers Drill from Utility Trench Explosion Site That Injured Workers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police Forensics Laboratory (Puslabfor) has found and removed a drilling tool from the scene of a utility project trench explosion on Jalan RS Fatmawati Raya, Cilandak, South Jakarta, which injured two workers. Cilandak Police Chief Kompol Gusprihatin Zen stated that the Puslabfor team arrived at the scene earlier on Wednesday to conduct a crime scene investigation. Gusprihatin said he could not yet confirm whether negligence or intent played a role in the incident. From the investigation, a Puslabfor team was observed carrying away the drill suspected to be key evidence. He noted that the drill apparently struck a PLN power cable, causing the explosion, adding that it was unlikely to have been deliberate and that deeper investigation would follow. Police have previously suggested the blast was likely caused by a severed power cable during drilling. The incident occurred on Monday morning while workers were excavating to repair a clean water pipe network. During the drilling, the equipment is believed to have hit an underground electrical cable, triggering the explosion. Both workers injured in the incident were evacuated to Fatmawati Hospital for medical treatment. Police have temporarily halted the excavation work for further investigation. The victims are now undergoing plastic surgery due to severe facial injuries.
