The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has urged Indonesian citizens to postpone travel to the Middle East region in light of evolving security dynamics. Yvonne Mewengkang, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, called on the public to exercise caution, particularly those planning travel or transit through affected countries.

The Foreign Ministry has activated communications with Indonesian citizens in various countries across the region. “The Foreign Ministry urges Indonesian citizens planning to travel through or transit in the region to consider postponing their travel,” Mewengkang stated when asked for confirmation on Sunday, 1 March 2026.

Explosions struck Tehran, Iran’s capital, on Saturday, 28 February 2026, following strikes that US officials identified to Al Jazeera as a joint operation with Israel. On the same day, explosions were also reported in Qatar, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Manama after Iran launched missiles towards Israel.

Through the Directorate of Indonesian Citizen Protection and Indonesian diplomatic missions in the Middle East, the Foreign Ministry has maintained intensive coordination with Indonesian communities across the region. Diplomatic missions have been instructed to monitor the conditions of Indonesian citizens and provide regular updates on developments in local security situations.

The ministry has advised all Indonesian nationals to remain calm and heighten vigilance. Citizens have been instructed to follow local authorities’ directives and maintain communication with the nearest Indonesian mission. This advisory also applies to Indonesians facing travel disruptions owing to the regional situation, including flight schedule changes or access restrictions.

The Foreign Ministry, working with Indonesian diplomatic missions, continues to assess actual conditions on the ground. The government will adjust its response measures in accordance with developments in the security situation and the protection needs of Indonesian citizens in each country.
