Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry has emphasised that the country’s participation in the Board of Peace (BoP) is solely intended to assist the people of Gaza in Palestine, and should not be overshadowed by disputes regarding membership fees.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang stressed that administrative dynamics should not hinder the Board of Peace’s mandate.

“We must ensure that this does not obstruct our focus on protecting civilians and undertaking various reconstruction efforts, and assisting our brothers and sisters in Gaza,” said Yvonne during a media briefing in Jakarta on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Mewengkang made these remarks in response to questions concerning Board of Peace membership fees, particularly regarding Israel’s decision not to pay membership contributions to the organisation established by Donald Trump.

She stated that Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, Sugiono, had emphasised that “Indonesia is a member of the Board of Peace without having to pay”.

“There is no requirement to become a Board of Peace member with the obligation to pay a financial contribution,” said Yvonne.

She added that Indonesia’s current focus is to ensure that its national contribution to the Board of Peace functions in accordance with the organisation’s mandate and can achieve shared objectives for Gaza’s recovery.

“Indonesia’s current contribution and focus is also directed at deploying our personnel to the ISF,” said Yvonne.

This refers to the International Stabilization Force (ISF), which will include Indonesian military personnel when deployed to Gaza.

Previously, Foreign Minister Sugiono, during his visit to Washington DC on Friday, 20 February 2026, stated that Indonesia had become a permanent member of the Board of Peace without contributing the proposed US$1 billion fee.

He explained that the US$1 billion contribution previously discussed was not a mandatory fee or condition of permanent membership.

As a tangible form of contribution, Indonesia has chosen to participate by deploying peacekeeping personnel. The government is preparing approximately 8,000 personnel to support the mission agreed upon in the forum.
