Foreign Ministry States Positive Response from Iran Regarding Fate of Pertamina Ships in Strait of Hormuz
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu), Yvonne Mawengkang, stated that the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, Iran, continues to coordinate regarding the two Pertamina ships still trapped in the Strait of Hormuz.
The ships, which are carrying stocks of fuel oil (BBM), are trapped in the Strait of Hormuz due to the war taking place between Iran and the United States (US) and Israel.
“Regarding the status of the Pertamina ships, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the KBRI in Tehran, has been continuously coordinating intensively with relevant parties in Iran since the beginning,” Yvonne said via a short message on Friday (27/3/2026).
The coordination has now progressed to the technical and operational stages for passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
“In its development, there has been a positive response from the Iranian side, which is currently being followed up by relevant parties on technical and operational aspects,” Yvonne added.
For information, the Iranian Government has finally conveyed conditions for ships with non-hostile status if they wish to cross the Strait of Hormuz.
However, it should be noted that the provisions for passing through the narrow waterway are strict.
Tehran emphasised two points, namely that ships passing through must not participate in and support aggression against Iran.
The two Indonesian Pertamina ships still detained in the Arabian Gulf are the PIS VLCC Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro.
