Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) has commented on the failure of ceasefire negotiations between the United States (US) and Iran in Pakistan. Kemlu regrets that the negotiations did not reach an agreement.

“Indonesia regrets that no agreement was reached in the negotiations between the US and Iran, notwithstanding the hard work done by Pakistan in facilitating dialogue between the two parties,” said Kemlu spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang at the Kemlu office in Central Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Nevertheless, Yvonne stated that the negotiations represent an appropriate initial step that needs to be continued. Kemlu also calls on all involved parties to exercise restraint and prioritise diplomacy.

“Nevertheless, Indonesia views these negotiations as an appropriate initial step that is very important and needs to be continued. And we call on all parties, of course, in the midst of this process, to continue exercising restraint and always prioritising dialogue and diplomacy, and to avoid the conflict’s effects spreading to world stability and peace,” she said.

Kemlu emphasised the importance for negotiating parties to respect the sovereignty of every country. Kemlu also stressed the importance of respecting international law and the UN Charter.

“Once again, we emphasise the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every country, as well as respect for international law and the UN Charter,” said Yvonne.

Previously, the negotiations to finalise a ceasefire between the US and Iran were held in a marathon session lasting 21 hours in Islamabad on Saturday (11/4), with Pakistan as the mediator, but failed to reach an agreement.
