Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) has confirmed that 32 Indonesian citizens (WNI) being repatriated from Iran will arrive in Indonesia on Tuesday, 10 March.

Acting Director of the Ministry’s Directorate of Indonesian Citizens Abroad (PWNI), Heni Hamidah, explained that the Indonesian citizens being repatriated from Iran via Baku, Azerbaijan, will be flown to Jakarta in two separate flights.

“The first flight is expected to arrive in Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon,” Heni said in a written response to ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday.

She stated that the Indonesian citizens are in good health and safe condition whilst awaiting their flights home from Baku.

Heni assured that the Ministry will continue to monitor every stage of the evacuation to ensure the process proceeds smoothly and that Indonesian citizens arrive safely in the country.

The evacuation of Indonesian citizens from Iran began in phases on Friday, 6 March, with the first wave of repatriation taking place via Azerbaijan.

In a media briefing on Friday, Heni explained that the evacuation plan was developed with careful attention to the evolving security situation, including the determination of the safest and most appropriate evacuation routes.

“The evacuation routes will be determined according to field conditions, and this will be decided by our colleagues at the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran and the Indonesian Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan,” Heni said.

Plans for subsequent evacuation phases, she added, will be determined later by the Indonesian government after assessing current security considerations and taking into account input from the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran.

Heni also assured that the Indonesian Embassy continues to communicate with Indonesian citizens, particularly those in Tehran, both resident and visiting, to ensure their safety.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran will continue to operate to provide assistance and support to all Indonesian citizens still in Iran,” she added.

Earlier on Tuesday, 2 March, Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono mentioned that evacuated Indonesian citizens would make a 10-hour overland journey to Baku before continuing their flight to Indonesia.
