JAKARTA – The Indonesian Foreign Ministry, through Acting Director of Indonesian Citizens Protection (PWNI) Heni Hamidah, has confirmed that no Indonesian nationals were harmed during Mexico’s military operation against drug cartels in Jalisco and Guadalajara on Sunday, 22 February 2026.

The operation was successfully conducted without any injury to civilian Indonesian citizens. “Indonesian nationals residing in the affected areas of Jalisco and Guadalajara have been monitored and are safe,” stated Heni during a press conference on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Public facilities, schools, shops, and airports have resumed operations, and the state of emergency declared by the Governor of Jalisco was lifted on 24 February. According to records from the Indonesian Embassy in Mexico City, approximately 481 Indonesian nationals currently reside in Mexico, with the largest concentrations in Nuevo Leon (150), Mexico City (137), and Jalisco (45).

Whilst conditions have progressively stabilized and the situation has become increasingly conducive, Heni emphasised that all Indonesian nationals, particularly those in affected areas, should maintain heightened vigilance. “Avoid crowds and follow official guidance from local authorities whilst maintaining communication with the Indonesian Embassy,” she advised.

The military operation is regarded as a significant achievement for the Mexican government in its efforts to suppress drug cartel activity under pressure from the United States administration. The death of a 59-year-old man has not only disrupted the leadership structure of Mexico’s most powerful cartel but has also triggered waves of violence across multiple regions.
