Foreign Minister Sugiono Attends UN Security Council Meeting to Discuss Palestinian Peace
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has undertaken a working visit to New York, United States, to attend a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting. At the forum, Sugiono will discuss the prospects for peace in Gaza, Palestine.
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, the working visit took place from 16 to 18 February 2026. The Foreign Minister attended the UNSC meeting on “The Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question (MEPQ)”.
“The Foreign Minister’s presence at the UNSC meeting reaffirms Indonesia’s commitment to playing an active role in peace and humanitarian efforts, including the reconstruction and recovery of Gaza,” the Ministry’s press statement said on Tuesday (17 February 2026).
In addition, the Foreign Minister will raise Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace, which reflects the consistency of Indonesia’s independent and active foreign policy in supporting just and sustainable peace in accordance with the two-state solution, as well as its tangible solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The Foreign Minister is also scheduled to hold meetings with the UN Secretary-General and the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations to discuss future steps in advancing peace in Palestine. This includes extending an invitation to attend the D-8 Summit, which will be held in April 2026 in Jakarta.
The Foreign Minister is also planning to meet with the British Foreign Secretary, who holds the UNSC presidency for February 2026.
