Foreign Minister Reveals Content of Prabowo's One-on-One Meeting with Japanese Emperor
Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that President Prabowo Subianto met one-on-one with Japanese Emperor Naruhito as part of official engagements at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. Sugiono revealed the content of their discussion. “Today is the first day; earlier, he met with Emperor Naruhito for about 20 minutes in a private conversation. This was followed by lunch at the palace. The two leaders discussed relations between Indonesia and Japan,” Sugiono told reporters in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday (30/3/2026). Sugiono noted that Japan is an important and strategic partner for Indonesia. However, their conversation did not involve politics or business but rather common interests and building connections. “As we all know, Japan is a very strategic partner for Indonesia. It is one of the five largest investors in Indonesia and historically an important partner for Indonesia. The discussion between them also covered matters of a common interest nature,” he said. “As we know, the Emperor’s position is as a symbol of the Japanese state. They did not discuss political matters, but more on bilateral relations and people-to-people ties. Earlier, the Emperor also conveyed some things; he expressed his hope that Indonesian citizens in Japan can be treated well,” he continued. In addition to meeting Emperor Naruhito, Prabowo also met with Japanese Crown Prince Fumihito. Following the meeting, Prabowo, along with Emperor Naruhito and Fumihito, attended a state lunch held at Rensui North in the Tokyo Imperial Palace complex. It is known that Prabowo is on a state visit to Tokyo, Japan. Prabowo began the visit by meeting Japanese Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
