Jakarta (ANTARA) — Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono reaffirmed the country’s commitment to playing an active role in peace and humanitarian efforts, including the reconstruction and recovery of Gaza.

The Foreign Minister undertook a working visit to New York, United States, from 16 to 18 February 2026, to attend a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting entitled “The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question (MEPQ)”.

In a press release issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Tuesday, it was stated that the Foreign Minister’s presence at the UNSC meeting reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to playing an active role in peace and humanitarian efforts, including the reconstruction and recovery of Gaza.

At the forum, Sugiono was also set to raise Indonesia’s participation in the Gaza Board of Peace (BoP), which represents the consistency of the country’s free and active foreign policy in supporting just and sustainable peace in line with the two-state solution, as well as demonstrating tangible solidarity with the Palestinian people.

In addition to attending the UNSC meeting, the Foreign Minister was also due to hold meetings with the UN Secretary-General and the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations to discuss steps to advance peace in Palestine.

Sugiono’s visit also served as an opportunity to deliver invitations to the D-8 Summit, scheduled to be held in Jakarta in April.

The Foreign Minister was additionally scheduled to hold a meeting with the British Foreign Secretary, who holds the UNSC presidency for February 2026.
