Foreign Minister Sugiono has affirmed that Indonesia has not yet paid any dues to the Board of Peace (BoP) despite being a member of the group. Sugiono stated that US President Donald Trump’s pledge of USD 5 billion for Gaza is separate from BoP contributions.

“Not once have we paid dues. What was discussed yesterday was not about contributions — this is on top of that. The USD 1 billion is from other countries wishing to contribute there, and there have already been pledges of five or seven [billion USD], which are separate from the dues,” Sugiono said during a press briefing in Washington DC on Friday (20/2/2026) local time.

Sugiono stressed that the dues are not a prerequisite for BoP membership. He said Indonesia is not obligated to pay.

“From the outset I have said that these are not membership fees, not a condition of membership. No — we are already members and there is no problem if we do not pay. However, if we wished to become a permanent member, there would be a USD 1 billion contribution required,” he explained.

He said the dues do not form the basis of the group. He noted that BoP members may contribute through any means, for instance by sending troops or providing funds.

“Contributions can take the form of money, troops, or individuals sending funds to the World Bank account that was set up,” he said.
