Foreign Investors Quietly Snap Up Commodity Shares Ahead of Eid Holiday

Jakarta — Foreign investors conducted net share purchases (net foreign buy) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during Monday’s trading (16 March 2026), with the value reaching IDR1.02 trillion.

Based on trading data, the total value of foreign investor purchases was recorded at IDR7.26 trillion, whilst the value of sales reached IDR6.24 trillion.

By sector, commodity shares, particularly gold, coal and energy, dominated the list of shares most heavily purchased by foreign investors in yesterday’s trading.

Merdeka Gold Resources (EMAS) became the share most heavily snapped up by foreign investors with net foreign purchases of IDR564.6 billion. Total transactions in this share even reached IDR1.14 trillion.

In second position is VKTR Technology for Mobility (VKTR) with net foreign purchases of IDR472.9 billion. Foreign purchases in this share reached IDR479.2 billion with sales of only IDR6.3 billion.

Meanwhile, Nusantara Sawit Sejahtera (NSSS) share was in the next position with net foreign purchases of IDR197.8 billion, followed by Adaro Andalan Indonesia (AADI) at IDR166.7 billion.

  • PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) - IDR41.1 billion

  • PT Astrindo Nusantara Infrastructure Tbk (BIPI) - IDR40.6 billion

Meanwhile, the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) closed down 114.92 points or 1.61% to the level of 7,022.29 at the end of trading.

A total of 569 shares fell, 189 rose, and 200 remained unchanged ahead of the long Eid holiday this year. The transaction value reached IDR15.89 trillion, involving 30.31 billion shares in 1.64 million transactions. Market capitalisation eroded to IDR12.413 trillion.

According to Refinitiv, utilities became the most severely declining sector, falling 3.99 per cent. Property subsequently fell 3.89 per cent and raw materials declined 3.79 per cent.
