For the Sake of the Bulak Kapal Flyover, a Warteg Owner in Bekasi Agrees to Have Their Building Demolished
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com – Land acquisition for the Bulak Kapal flyover project has begun on Jalan HM Joyo Martono, Bekasi.
Several buildings are being demolished as part of the preparations for the infrastructure project, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the area.
One of the affected residents, Yadi Oktaviyadi (48), stated that he did not object to the demolition of his ‘warteg’ to facilitate the project.
“Hopefully, with the construction of this flyover, the traffic congestion in Bekasi, especially in Bulak Kapal, can be reduced. So, I don’t mind,” said Yadi to the media at the location on Thursday (26/2/2026).
Yadi, a resident of RT 01/RW 021, Margahayu Village, East Bekasi District, explained that the plan to build the Bulak Kapal flyover had been around since 2017.
“Perhaps due to operational or budgetary constraints, it is only being realised this year,” he said.
He revealed that his warteg stands on land owned by Jasa Marga, with a width of about 1.5 meters.
According to him, his parents used to have permission to use the land because it was not being used at the time.
“At that time, my parents were given permission because it wasn’t being used. But when the time comes, we are willing to have it demolished,” he said.
The Head of the Incentive Disincentive Facilitation and Building Demolition Team of the Bekasi City Distaru, Tarmuji, said that there are nine buildings included in the demolition plan.
“This demolition is for the construction of the flyover. There are approximately 9 buildings to be demolished, and 4 people own them,” said Tarmuji.
Of the total, three buildings have been demolished by Distaru, while one building was demolished independently by the owner because they did not have a certificate of ownership.
The types of buildings affected vary, from shops and showrooms to wartegs, most of which are used as business premises.
The Bulak Kapal flyover project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion that often occurs at the Bulak Kapal level crossing and its surroundings.
