BEKASI — The Metro Bekasi City Police Chief, Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, has urged residents planning to return to their hometowns for Lebaran to report to their local neighbourhood administrators before leaving their homes.

According to Kusumo, this step is important to facilitate monitoring of neighbourhood security, particularly for homes left vacant by their owners during the mudik period.

“We will also communicate with the RT/RW so that anyone leaving their home will report, including when they plan to return,” said Kusumo when contacted on Friday (13 March 2026).

In addition to engaging neighbourhood administrators, police will also register residents departing through sectoral and district-level units.

“We will also register residents through the police subprecinct and military district level via community security officers and village security personnel to determine who will be leaving,” said Kusumo.

He explained that this measure is being taken to strengthen security surveillance in residential areas during the Lebaran mudik period.

To protect vacant homes, Kusumo also requested residents to reinvigorate night patrols through the neighbourhood security system (siskamling).

“We ask that the neighbourhood watch and security posts be activated for the protection of empty houses,” said Kusumo.

Previously, Metro Bekasi City Police had also planned to open a free vehicle parking service for residents undertaking the mudik journey.

“Yes, we plan to provide a vehicle parking service at both the Police Headquarters and the Traffic Police Office,” said Kusumo.

The facility will be available at the Metro Bekasi City Police Headquarters in Medan Satria District and the Bekasi City Traffic Police Office in South Bekasi District.

This service is intended for residents using public transport such as buses or trains for mudik, so they do not need to worry about leaving their vehicles at home.

According to him, the vehicle parking process will be carried out by the police facilities and infrastructure division with complete vehicle registration.

“We will request photocopies of the vehicle registration certificate, the driver’s licence, and their personal data (identity card) for completeness at the time of collection,” said Gefri.

He hopes that this year’s mudik security operations will run smoothly.

“I hope that throughout the course of this operation, everything can proceed without hindrance,” he said.
