JAKARTA - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has confirmed that supplies of essential foodstuffs are secure and prices are stable ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026.

Amran stated that data from the Food Balance Sheet and Production Projection show that the majority of strategic commodities are in surplus through April 2026.

The government’s Strategic Rice Reserve (CBP) held in Bulog warehouses currently stands at 3.5 million tonnes and is projected to increase by 15 percent in March, in line with ongoing harvest operations.

“If this trend continues until the end of the month, our stocks are almost certain to exceed 6 million tonnes,” Amran said in an official statement on Monday (2 March 2026).

According to him, rice stocks and production are sufficiently robust to maintain supply and price stability across the community.

“We ensure that national rice stocks are in surplus,” Amran said.

Beyond rice, corn production and stocks are also in good condition. Current corn availability reaches 10.751 million tonnes, whilst demand stands at 5.899 million tonnes. Consequently, domestic corn production shows a surplus of 4.852 million tonnes.

Other commodities also show surpluses: consumption sugar has a surplus of 595 thousand tonnes, large red chilies show a surplus of 74 thousand tonnes, and red chilies show a surplus of 105 thousand tonnes.

“God willing, ahead of Eid 2026, essential supplies are secure. Food balance data shows we are in a surplus position for major commodities. Our rice is more than sufficient, corn is sufficient, consumption sugar is sufficient. The public need not worry,” Amran said.

Several other commodities have already been exported abroad, according to Amran. Cooking oil, for instance, has a surplus of 3.556 million tonnes; chicken meat shows a surplus of 728 thousand tonnes; chicken eggs show a surplus of 349 thousand tonnes; and shallots show a surplus of 57 thousand tonnes.

“This proves that domestic production is strong and able to support national needs, and even permits exports,” Amran said.

In addition to ensuring food supply and stocks are secure, the government continues to monitor distribution processes and strengthen supply across all regions.

The Agriculture Ministry monitors this process daily, engaging field agricultural extension workers.

“We monitor this daily. So, stocks are available, production is running, distribution is under our supervision. Our target is simple: a peaceful Eid, stable prices, and a smiling public,” Amran said.
