Food Supplies in Yogyakarta and Sleman Surplus Ahead of Eid 2026
Food supplies of various basic commodities in Yogyakarta City and Sleman Regency Government are reported to be in surplus ahead of Eid 2026.
In Yogyakarta City, rice supply has reached 2,770 tonnes per week to meet public demand of around 1,900 tonnes, resulting in excess stock of 780.8 tonnes with food security lasting 1.4 months.
Head of the Department of Agriculture and Food of Yogyakarta City, Sukidi, stated that this surplus condition guarantees the fulfilment of residents’ needs. “From monitoring at several markets and distributors, food stocks in Yogyakarta City are in sufficient, even surplus, condition,” said Sukidi on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
Besides rice, several other commodities in Yogyakarta City are also claimed to have adequate reserves. Sukidi detailed that chicken egg stock has a surplus of 129.6 tonnes with a food security period of 1.2 months, chicken meat surplus of 108.3 tonnes with 1.2 months, cooking oil surplus of 111.52 tonnes with 1.6 months, and granulated sugar surplus of up to 84.33 tonnes with food security reaching 2.3 months.
“All supplies are maintained through smooth distribution channels from major distributors, traditional markets, to modern retail,” he said.
However, he noted that commodities such as red bird’s eye chillies are still experiencing price fluctuations. Red bird’s eye chilli, which previously touched prices of Rp95,000 per kilogramme after fluctuating from Rp70,000 to Rp85,000 per kilogramme.
“Red bird’s eye chilli is indeed the most volatile due to weather factors, but in terms of availability it remains safe in the market,” he said.
For chicken eggs, there has been a price decrease from Rp30,000 to Rp29,000 per kilogramme, while chicken prices remain relatively stable at around Rp39,000 per kilogramme.
Meanwhile, Head of the Industrial Division of the Department of Industry and Trade of Sleman Regency, Dwi Wulandari, stated that food stock availability as of February 2026 and to date is also relatively safe with some items in surplus.
She detailed rice stocks of 156,075 kilogrammes, granulated sugar of 154,180 kilogrammes, and cooking oil of 163,908 kilogrammes.
The availability of animal protein in Sleman is said to be very sufficient. With beef stocks of 19,890 kilogrammes, broiler chicken meat of 125,008 kilogrammes, and laying hens’ eggs of 67,825 kilogrammes, projected to be able to respond to increased demand during Ramadan until Eid.
“To ensure stock and price certainty, we monitor eight main public markets such as Sleman Market, Prambanan, Godean, and Cebongan,” she said.
Most food prices in Sleman are also relatively stable. Such as premium rice at Rp15,263 per kilogramme and beef rump at Rp141,250 per kilogramme.
Although there is a price increase in red bird’s eye chilli of 5.76 per cent to Rp89,975 per kilogramme and a slight increase in granulated sugar and cooking oil, this is balanced by price decreases in several other commodities.
Such as large red chilli declining by 8.74 per cent and laying hens’ eggs declining by 3.49 per cent to Rp29,150 per kilogramme.
