Following Bekasi Accident, KAI Renames Argo Bromo Anggrek to KA Anggrek
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is changing the name of the Argo Bromo Anggrek train to KA Anggrek. This name change will take effect on 9 May 2026. The information was shared via the official Instagram account @kai121_ on Tuesday (5/5/2026). “Like an orchid that continues to grow and adapt, every journey brings a new spirit,” KAI wrote. “Starting 9 May 2026, KA Argo Bromo Anggrek will appear with a new identity as KA Anggrek,” the post continued. “This is not just a name change, but also a manifestation of our commitment to continuously provide the best service in every journey,” the statement added. “With its flagship route connecting important cities, KA Anggrek is ready to accompany more comfortable, safe, and memorable journeys,” it emphasised. This name change follows the collision incident at Bekasi Timur Station last week. The accident involved a KRL Commuter Line train and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route. The incident began when the KRL stopped due to a track disruption. A taxi was struck at the level crossing. The impact caused severe damage to the last carriage of the KRL. The women’s carriage at the rear suffered the most severe damage. The crumpled condition of the carriage made passenger evacuation difficult. The death toll was reported at 16 people. The majority of the victims were women. The National Committee for Transportation Safety (KNKT) is still investigating to uncover the cause of the accident.
