Foldable iPhone at Risk of Delay Over One Critical Component
The tech company Apple is reportedly still facing hurdles in developing a foldable iPhone which is said to be named the iPhone Ultra. The main issue lies with the hinge component which has not yet met the company’s quality standards. According to gadget leaker Memontary Digital on Weibo, Apple is having difficulty ensuring long-term hinge durability. The hinge reportedly wears out quickly after repeated opening and closing of the device. This condition risks delaying the foldable iPhone’s launch. There is even a possibility that the device’s release could be delayed indefinitely if Apple cannot find a solution that satisfies its internal standards. According to Tech Radar, Apple continues development and may delay the launch until 2027 to perfect the foldable hinge design. On the other hand, Apple is said to have made progress on the display aspect. The same source says Apple nearly succeeded in eliminating the crease left by fold lines typically visible on foldable phone displays, even after long-term use. This has become one of Apple’s main focus areas, given that the crease on foldable screens has long been seen as a weakness of the device. If true, the crease-free display could become the key selling point of Apple’s foldable iPhone in the future. So far there is no certainty whether Apple will still introduce the device at the annual September launch event, or delay entirely to next year. However, another scenario suggests Apple could announce the device earlier but delay its sale until 2027.
