The East Java Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) is evacuating thousands of flood victims in Dusun Balongrejo, Kedungringin Village, Beji Sub-district, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. The BPBD team responded quickly by deploying rubber boats, refugee tents, and personnel to assist in evacuating the affected residents.

“The flood has not yet receded, so the residents must be evacuated to safer places; we have sent tents and other aid,” said the Head of BPBD East Java, Gatot Soebroto, in Surabaya on Thursday (26/3).

BPBD East Java also sent logistical support, including 3,600 packs of minimanis biscuits, 3,600 packs of klepon biscuits, 2,565 packs of Marie biscuits, 900 packs of Malkist biscuits, and 100 packs of children’s clothing. Additionally, there were 360 cans of nutritional cocktail food, 360 cans of mung bean nutritional supplement, 50 packs of food equipment, 240 cans of ready-to-eat nasi opor, 240 cans of ready-to-eat nasi kari, and 240 cans of ready-to-eat nasi goreng.

According to Gatot, throughout the Eid period, in line with instructions from East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, the East Java Provincial Government had anticipated extreme weather by conducting Weather Modification Operations (OMC) for 10 days with 22 sorties.

However, due to limitations in the number of sorties, not all areas could be covered, including the rain that occurred in the Pasuruan region. “We hope that today’s rain potential in Pasuruan can be managed so that the flood here can recede quickly. The cause of the rain in Pasuruan is high rainfall intensity,” he said.

To reach the location in Dusun Balongrejo, the team had to use residents’ boats to cross the flooded rice fields. The boat route is indeed used by residents as a means of transport to go outside the hamlet.

“Compared to previous floods, this flood is indeed the largest,” said Wagiyono, the Head of Kedungringin Village, accompanied by the local hamlet head.

To the affected residents, he advised turning off electricity supplies affected by the flood to avoid short circuits and electric shocks.

Meanwhile, HM Shobih Asrori, the Deputy Regent of Pasuruan, stated that the flood caused by high-intensity rain on Tuesday (24/3/2026) was a result of extreme weather and high-intensity rain. “The inspection we conducted is a form of attention from the government, both from the province and Pasuruan Regency, to at least alleviate the burden on the affected residents,” he explained.

He also hoped for a technical study to determine the exact cause of the flooding in Beji, as it happens every year. “The current flood is the largest compared to previous floods,” he emphasised.

As a form of attention and service to the affected residents, public kitchens have been established in three locations, namely in Rejoso, Winongan, and Bangil Sub-districts. Besides those three sub-districts, flooding in Pasuruan Regency also occurred in Beji, Grati, Gondangwetan, Gempol, and Pohjentrek Sub-districts.

The East Java Provincial Government has deployed 10 water pumps to address the floodwater pooling in Rejoso Sub-district, Pasuruan, East Java.

The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) has deployed a team consisting of four expert personnel supported by one rescue vehicle and water evacuation equipment.
