Floods Submerge 46 Neighbourhoods in East Jakarta, 696 Residents Evacuated
As many as 46 neighbourhood units (RT) have been affected by flooding in East Jakarta up to Sunday, 22 March 2026 at 10:00 WIB. The flooding occurred after heavy rain lashed the Jakarta area and surroundings since Saturday, 21 March 2026, triggering overflows from several rivers.
The Acting Head of Jakarta’s BPBD, Isnawa Adji, stated that water levels had risen at several monitoring posts since Saturday evening. “Water heights at the Pesanggrahan Post, Cipinang Hulu, and Krukut Hulu have reached Alert Level 3 status, while Sunter Hulu is at Alert Level 2,” he said in an official statement on Sunday, 22 March 2026.
The flooding has entirely affected East Jakarta, with a total of 46 RT impacted. The worst-hit area is Ciracas subdistrict with 16 RT submerged. Flooding has also been recorded in Cibubur with 6 RT, Cipinang Melayu with 6 RT, Cilangkap with 5 RT, Dukuh with 5 RT, and one each in Munjul, Cipinang Muara, Pekayon, Baru, and Ceger. “Water depths in the affected locations range from 30 to 80 centimetres. The flooding was triggered by high rainfall causing overflows from the Cipinang River, Cilangkap River, and Sunter River,” he added.
Several areas had previously been affected but have now receded, including Rawajati, Kebon Baru, Pejaten Timur, Jagakarsa, Tanjung Barat, and parts of Munjul, Dukuh, Tengah, and Cibubur.
The flooding has also forced residents to evacuate. BPBD recorded 696 people from 201 households seeking shelter at seven points. Evacuation sites include Mushola Al Muminin in Kramat Jati, Mushola Al Mutaqin in Pasar Rebo, the Baru subdistrict office, and several mosques and public facilities in Ciracas.
Adji stated that BPBD personnel, along with the Water Resources Agency, Public Works Agency, and Fire and Rescue Agency, have been deployed to pump out the flooding and ensure drainage channels are functioning. BPBD aims to have the flooding recede quickly.
