Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – A total of 1,505 residents in Cirebon Regency, West Java, have been affected by flooding that struck three subdistricts since Thursday (2/12). The disaster was triggered by prolonged heavy rainfall that pounded the area from the upper to lower river basins.

Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Cirebon Regency BPBD, Hadi Eko, said the high rainfall caused water levels in the Cijangkelok and Cisangarung rivers to rise and overflow into residential areas.

“The flooding yesterday (Thursday 2/12) occurred in three subdistricts: Pasaleman, Ciledug, and Losari,” he said in Cirebon on Friday (2/13).

He explained that water levels at affected locations varied between 20 and 150 centimeters. The highest flooding was recorded in Ciledug Wetan Village. Based on field team assessments, the number of affected residents reached 485 households or 1,505 individuals. Of that number, approximately 150 people temporarily evacuated to safer locations when water levels rose.

“There were no reports of injuries or fatalities in this incident,” he said.

In addition to affecting residents, the flooding also submerged at least 388 homes across three villages. Infrastructure damage was also recorded, including one retaining wall sustaining minor damage from erosion by the current. Additionally, one bridge and one road section were also affected by flooding, temporarily disrupting activities and access for residents.

Hadi Eko added that flooding at several locations is now gradually receding. Nevertheless, residents are urged to remain vigilant in anticipation of possible further flooding.

“BPBD officers along with subdistrict officials, security personnel, and volunteers have carried out evacuations, rapid assessments, and water pumping at flood locations,” Hadi Eko said.
