Flooding Still Submerges 115 Neighbourhoods in Jakarta Due to River Overflows

The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) DKI Jakarta has recorded 115 Rukun Tetangga (RT) scattered across West, East, and South Jakarta that remain flooded, with water levels ranging from 15 centimetres (cm) to 2.4 metres. “The cause is high rainfall that led to the overflowing of the Krukut River, Grogol Mampang River, Angke River, Pesanggrahan River, Keuangan River, Mampang River, and Ciliwung River, thus submerging residents’ settlements,” said the Head of BPBD DKI Marulitua Sijabat in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to him, the latest data shows 115 RT and four road sections in West, East, and South Jakarta still flooded as of Tuesday morning. He explained that heavy rain that struck the DKI Jakarta area and its surroundings on Monday (4/5) caused rises in water levels at the Pesanggrahan Post (Alert 3) at 4:00 p.m. WIB, Pasar Ikan Water Gate (Alert 2) at 7:00 p.m. WIB, Depok Post (Alert 3) at 5:00 p.m. WIB, Angke Hulu Post (Alert 3) at 5:00 p.m. WIB, Angke Hulu Post (Alert 2) at 6:00 p.m. WIB. Then at Karet Post (Alert 3) at 7:00 p.m. WIB, Cipinang Hulu Post (Alert 3) at 8:00 p.m. WIB, Sunter Hulu Post (Alert 3) at 8:00 p.m. WIB, Angke Hulu Post (Alert 1) at 8:00 p.m. WIB, resulting in several inundations in the DKI Jakarta area. “The water height ranges from 15 cm to 240 cm (2.4 metres),” he said. Currently, BPBD DKI Jakarta is deploying personnel to monitor inundation conditions in every area and coordinating with the Water Resources Agency, Road Infrastructure Agency, and Public Works Agency to conduct pumping of inundations and ensure that water channels function properly. In South Jakarta, there are 78 RT, consisting of: Cilandak Barat Subdistrict: 1 RT; Pondok Labu Subdistrict: 1 RT; Tanjung Barat Subdistrict: 2 RT; Cipete Utara Subdistrict: 3 RT; Petogogogan Subdistrict: 37 RT; Bangka Subdistrict: 1 RT; Pela Mampang Subdistrict: 9 RT; Rawajati Subdistrict: 4 RT; Cilandak Timur Subdistrict: 3 RT; Pejaten Timur Subdistrict: 8 RT; Bintaro Subdistrict: 6 RT; Pesanggrahan Subdistrict: 2 RT; Ulujami Subdistrict: 1 RT. In East Jakarta, there are 22 RT, consisting of: Bidara Cina Subdistrict: 4 RT; Kampung Melayu Subdistrict: 8 RT; Cawang Subdistrict: 7 RT; Cililitan Subdistrict: 3 RT. Water height: 15 to 240 cm.
