Flooding on Marunda Makmur Road in Bekasi, Residents Complain of Lack of Drainage
Bekasi - Jalan Marunda Makmur in Sagara Makmur Ward, Tarumajaya Subdistrict, Bekasi Regency, remained flooded until Friday afternoon (27/3/2026). The water level reached 20 to 30 centimetres.
On Monday (23/3/2026), the area was also hit by flooding with water levels up to 50 centimetres.
Kompas.com observations at the site on Friday (27/3/2026) showed that the floodwater covered half of the road surface. This condition hampered motorists, especially due to potholes at several points on the road that were concealed by the flooding.
Several vehicles, both cars and motorcycles, were seen slowing down or pulling over to avoid the potholes.
For information, Jalan Marunda Makmur serves as an access route to North Jakarta and the surrounding areas of the East Flood Canal (BKT). Vehicle mobility in this area is quite high.
One resident, Muhammad Madi (43), said that the road is prone to flooding every time heavy rain falls.
“It’s because the developers didn’t think about drainage on both sides for water flow. So every time it rains, it floods. That’s common knowledge,” Madi said when met at the location on Friday.
Every time it floods, the water level often reaches 50-100 centimetres, as happened a few days ago. Madi revealed that many vehicles, especially motorcycles, stall because they attempt to cross the deep flooding.
“From the front of Tarumajaya Toll Road, through Pantai Modern Housing to Kebon Kelapa, every time it rains there are always problems, like stalling or slipping,” he said.
He also mentioned that this condition has persisted for five to six years, but there has been no serious handling from the government.
“Up to now, there has been no handling from the West Java Government,” he stated.
“So the main problem is the drainage. There’s no water disposal,” he added.
Residents hope that the government will soon build drainage to prevent flooding from recurring every rainy season.
“The main point is that we want drainage built on this road. For Mr KDM (Dedi Mulyadi, Governor of West Java), please review the performance of the staff below. Especially for road access, because every time it rains, it floods,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of the Bekasi Regency BPBD, Dodi Supriadi, stated that his office has not yet received information regarding flood reports in the area.
“There have been no reports to the BPBD so far. We will follow up immediately,” Dodi said.
