TANGERANG — Flooding in Periuk Damai housing complex, Periuk, Tangerang, has not yet subsided as of Monday 9 March 2026, following heavy rainfall on Saturday 7 March 2026.

Based on observations at the site, water levels have reached five metres. The flooding has submerged residential buildings to such an extent that nearly all structures are covered by water.

The high water levels have severed access to the housing complex, forcing residents to rely solely on inflatable rubber boats to evacuate belongings from their homes and to assist residents still stranded at the location. During traversals of the area, many houses are visible with only their roofs above the waterline.

Nonetheless, some residents have remained in their homes, particularly those whose houses have two storeys. Additionally, numerous electrical cables are nearly submerged due to the exceptional flood levels in the complex.

Heri Bertus, head of RW 08 (neighbourhood unit) in Periuk Damai, described the flooding as amongst the most severe in recent years, with water reaching approximately five metres.

“Many residents are extremely exhausted from the evacuation process that began yesterday. Some residents were even trapped inside their homes because the water was too high,” Heri stated when encountered at the location.

According to him, the most pressing need for evacuees is sanitation facilities, as the toilets at the mosque being used as an evacuation centre have themselves been inundated.

“The most urgent need right now is toilets, as those at the mosque have already been flooded and cannot be used,” he said.

Nevertheless, logistical needs such as food and clean water are gradually being met through government assistance and community-organised public kitchens set up near the evacuation sites.
