Nine districts in Tangerang Regency were flooded on Sunday (8 February). The floods were caused by heavy rainfall that had been pouring since Saturday night (7 March). According to preliminary data from the Tangerang Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), floods occurred at 13 points spread across nine districts.

The head of BPBD Tangerang Regency, Ahmad Taufik, said the affected areas include Kelapa Dua, Tigaraksa, Rajeg, Kronjo, Pasar Kemis, Sepatan, Sepatan Timur, Kresek, and Sindang Jaya.

‘Based on preliminary data, floods are spread across nine districts in Tangerang Regency,’ Taufik said on Sunday.

He explained that the water levels varied across locations, ranging from around 20 centimetres to as high as 1.5 metres.

Currently, BPBD officers are still collecting data on residents affected by the floods, including the number of households affected. ‘For complete data, including the number of affected households, this will follow,’ he said.

Meanwhile, several other roads in Tangerang City were also flooded due to overnight rain. One of them is Jalan Raya Merdeka, in the Karawaci district, on Sunday (8/3), which disrupted traffic.

CNNIndonesia.com monitoring shows water heights of around 30 to 50 centimetres, causing traffic to be congested on Jalan Raya Merdeka.

In addition to Jalan Raya Merdeka, the overnight rain also caused flooding on several other roads in Tangerang City, including Jalan Ciledug Raya, Jalan Raya Husein Sastranegara in Benda, Jalan Raya Gempol in Pinang, and the Batu Sari area in Batuceper.

The high levels of flooding are suspected to be triggered by heavy rainfall since Saturday night (7/3). Additionally, suboptimal drainage conditions cause water to overflow onto road surfaces.

Residents have voiced complaints as flooding is reportedly common in these locations and disrupts daily activities.
