The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Makassar recorded that the number of residents displaced due to flooding in the Biringkanaya and Manggala sub-districts, Makassar, South Sulawesi, has increased to 239 families or 878 people.

“The number of residents displaced due to the flood is currently 239 families or 878 people,” said the Head of BPBD Makassar, Muhammad Fadli, Wednesday (25/2).

Data from BPBD Makassar states that there are four villages affected by the flood, namely Katimbang and Paccerakkang villages in the Biringkanaya sub-district, and Batua and Manggala villages in the Manggala sub-district.

“The latest data on displaced people up to 21:30 WITA, there are four villages and two sub-districts affected by the flood with water levels reaching 80 centimetres,” he said.

So far, Fadli said, the BPBD team continues to monitor and assess the flood-affected areas.

“Hundreds of residents affected by the flood have been displaced in 15 evacuation locations that have been provided,” he said.

Previously, the number of residents displaced due to flooding in the area was 169 families or 545 people.

“Yes, there are 545 people or 169 families displaced due to the flood,” said Fadli.

The flood was triggered by heavy rain that hit the city of Makassar since Tuesday (24/2).

“The Manggala and Biringkanaya sub-districts are prone to flooding when the rainy season arrives in Makassar,” he said.
