The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Makassar, South Sulawesi, has reported that 545 residents have been displaced due to flooding. They were evacuated to six locations spread across the Manggala and Biringkanaya sub-districts.

According to BPBD Makassar data on Wednesday (25 February 2026) morning, flood-affected residents have been using mosques and schools as evacuation centres. In Manggala, evacuees are spread across the Jabal Nur Mosque, with 36 people, and the Yuda Alfatih Mosque, with 27 people.

In the Biringkanaya sub-district, 232 people are sheltering at the Lailatul Qadar Mosque. Additionally, 86 people are sheltering at the Paccerakkang Elementary School. Finally, 31 people are sheltering at the Al Ramun Mosque.

“There are six evacuation locations in total, housing 169 families, or 545 people,” said the Head of BPBD Makassar, Fadli Tahar, in a statement, as reported by detikSulsel on Wednesday (25 February 2026).

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Makassar, Munafri ‘Appi’ Arifuddin, visited the flood-affected residents in Manggala on Tuesday (24 February) at 10.30 pm local time. Appi directly greeted the residents who were sheltering at the Jabal Nur Mosque, Block 10.

“The water level inside the houses is about knee-deep, especially in RT 2. We hope that the services provided to our displaced residents can be maximised, especially for toddlers and the elderly,” said Appi.
