Flooding in Grobogan Regency Affects 9,736 Households Across 45 Villages
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Grobogan Regency, Central Java, has reported that heavy rainfall lashing the area, compounded by water surges from several upstream rivers from Sunday (15 February) through to the early hours of the following morning, caused flooding that affected 9,736 households spread across 45 villages.
Wahyu Tri Darmawanto, Head of Operations at Grobogan BPBD, said on Tuesday that aside from the high rainfall, the flooding was also triggered by overflowing water due to increased discharge from the Glugu, Jajar, Tuntang and Lusi rivers, which could no longer contain the volume and spilled into residential areas.
“Heavy rain fell from Sunday (15 February) evening through to the early hours of Monday (16 February). Besides inundating settlements and infrastructure, the flooding also caused at least one house to sustain severe damage and one house moderate damage in Ngrandah Village, Toroh Sub-district,” Wahyu said on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
His agency also recorded a number of embankment breaches, including at the Cabean River in Tajemsari Village, Tegowanu Sub-district; the Jajar Baru River in Krasak and Klampisan hamlets, Mojoagung Village, Karangrayung Sub-district; and the Jratun River in Mbaru hamlet, Kebonagung Village, Tegowanu Sub-district.
“In Godong Sub-district, flooding was also triggered by a breach in the Tuntang River embankment, with impacts reaching Tinanding Village. In Purwodadi Sub-district, the worst-hit area was Kalongan Urban Village, where 1,180 households were affected. Water levels at the Permata Hijau Kalongan housing estate were reported to have reached approximately one metre,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Cingkrong Village, he noted that 2,416 households were affected, with water levels ranging between 10 and 50 centimetres.
The flooding also submerged rice paddies across several sub-districts, including Tegowanu, Godong and Tawangharjo. In Tinanding Village, Godong Sub-district, approximately 130 hectares of paddy fields with rice crops ready for harvest were reported to be inundated.
“Joint teams from BPBD, the military, police, volunteers and regional leadership coordination forum (Forkopimda) elements carried out evacuations of residents at several points, including in Toroh, Purwodadi and Godong sub-districts. Distribution of logistical aid and emergency equipment has also been channelled to affected areas,” he said.
In addition, communal efforts were undertaken to raise embankments and clear mud following the embankment breach on the Purwodadi–Semarang road section in Tinanding Village, bordering Demak Regency.
